The University of Colorado at Boulder Women’s Studies Program and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center (GLBTRC) are pleased to announce a three-day symposium titled “TRANSforming Gender: Sexualities, Cultures, and Identities In and Out of the Academy,” which will be held April 5-7, 2006, at the Old Main Theater on campus.
The symposium will feature a diverse and dynamic group of transgendered, transsexual and intersexed cultural leaders including: Calpernia Addams and Andrea James (both appearing in the Academy Award nominated film “Transamerica”), Gordene MacKenzie, Pauline Park, Susan Stryker, Thea Hillman, Dean Spade, Anderson Toone, Jamison Green, Diane Torr, Matt Kailey and Avy Skolnik. All symposium sessions will be held on the CU Boulder campus with most convening in the Old Main Theater. There will be a screening of two transgendered historical and political documentaries, “Screaming Queens” and “Cruel and Unusual,” on the evening of Wednesday, April 5. Both filmmakers (Susan Stryker and Dean Spade) will be in attendance to answer questions. There will be a spoken word/music performance the evening of Thursday, April 6th and a drag king/queen show, featuring local performers, the following evening.
