April 13, 2007 (Los Angeles)—Deep Stealth Productions announced today that their short film “Casting Pearls” has been picked up in a North American distribution deal with Frameline Distribution.
The seven-minute short comedy illustrates the difficulties transgender women face in Hollywood via a hectic series of auditions endured by a transsexual actress. Calpernia Addams stars as The Actress, and the film was directed by Andrea James from a script they wrote together.
Ms. James said, “We are thrilled that Frameline picked this film up before its premiere. Calpernia gave a remarkable range of performances, and we hope this excerpt from our feature film script will generate interest in the larger project.”
Ms. Addams added, “We feel that writing, directing and acting our own stories is the essential next step in helping people understand the truth of transgender contributions to art and entertainment. Right now, the best way to get these opportunities is to make them ourselves, and thank goodness for support from institutions like Frameline in getting them seen by a larger audience.”
“Casting Pearls” will premiere around the country in 2007.
